Women, Industrialization, and Urbanization in Latin America, 1890-1950

This workshop focused on the experiences of both elite women and those peasant women who were transformed into the course of the early twentieth century. The long nineteenth century provided the background to this transformation, which reworked notions of proper masculinity and femininity as it also redefined racial categories. Special emphasis was given to Brazil and Mexico.
