“WHAT IS THAT THING?: Experiences in Scholarly Recording with MiniDisc
Technology”

When: Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 4 p.m.

Where: MITH Conference Room (www.mith2.umd.edu)

Recording voice and sound material once was revolutionized by the portable tape recorder. Today historians, archivists, linguists, and other scholars are exploring portable digital technologies such as the MiniDisc(http://www.minidisc.org/) to capture, manipulate, and preserve human speech.

All are invited to discuss their experiences working with sound recordings and technology. Two graduate students have offered to briefly share their work and talk about their experiences with oral history and linguistic recording using MiniDisc. We would love you to join us.
